Re:Board of Selectmen -August 28, 2006 - 2006/08/28 22:48 I couldn't have said it better myself Joan but allow me to add my 2 cents (again).

Every year the town of Simsbury encounters a battle when budgets are presented and considered. Year after year, educational programs such as MEP are eliminated due to cost. Parents now provide all back to school materials and more during the year. Teachers regularly purchase items for their classrooms with their own money as well as asking parents to donate items to the classroom. I could go on and on but you get the picture; kids are losing components of their education and parents are picking up the cost for others. If we do not have enough money to provide a quality education for children of all levels, than why do we have enough money to but the Ethel Walker land?

A few more questions...If the town buys this land, what happens in a few years when Ethel Walker makes more demands? Are we going to cave in to those as well? How about the other private schools? Maybe they'll decide they need "the town's help" as well. How are we going to support all these private institutions? The answer; WE CAN'T! I think we are at the top of a very slippery slope at this point.
