Re:BOARD OF SELECTMEN - PUBLIC AUDIENCE -July 14, 2008 - 2008/08/06 23:41 You rather wait for another election, when a town manager... a professional... can be hired... and fired if they don't do their job?

Oh yeah... it totally makes sense to continue to have the town run by a bunch of incestuous, inbred moron's with no formal education in managing a maturing town, and their own self-interests put above the wishes of the Majority of town residents.

Re:BOARD OF SELECTMEN - PUBLIC AUDIENCE -July 14, 2008 - 2008/08/11 09:18 I don't know enough about politics to know which type of government is best for Simsbury but I do know that the current form isn't it. As it stands, the first selectman is not held accountable for her actions, or inactions, by anyone. She can show up, not show up, do lots of stuff, do nothing, and no one has the authority to question her. Meanwhile, employees at town hall have to answer to her. Seems like a double standard. I was hoping against hope that MG's second time in office would be different but it seems like more of the same and there doesn't seem to be anyone better on the horizon. Its easy to point fingers at past administrations but ultimately that's not helpful and shows a lack of class regardless of which party is doing the finger pointing. I wish things would get better but...

Re:BOARD OF SELECTMEN - PUBLIC AUDIENCE -July 14, 2008 - 2008/08/12 13:48 sb wrote Glassman "Doesn't want to get her hands dirty cleaning up the mess that Vincent left" Ya mean the mess called the Iron Horse Concert Facility and the promotion of economic development in down town (new Amelias/Fiddlers Green) or did you mean the mess in some other part of town? Vincent did a very credible job IMHO! Mary has higher office ambitions and is using Simsbury as a stepping stone. I'm not impressed with her return yet but Im going to be patient and hopeful.

Re:BOARD OF SELECTMEN - PUBLIC AUDIENCE -July 14, 2008 - 2008/08/13 18:52 So Watchful - What is a good model of government? If a town manager is so "horrible", why do a lot of the surrounding towns have one? Why do they seem to not have the many issues that are killing Simsbury?

And most importantly what exactly has Mary G. done for Simsbury in the last (almost) year? Anything? NOTHING!!! She has sat on her hands, too concerned about getting them dirty and jeopardizing her chance to move to a State level position. And her "bobble head" sidekick Hampton is no better.

And it's not just the Dem's. Take a look at that idiot Wertheimer. She's done nothing in hte multiple terms she's been in office, attempted to also bolt for a State position, got her ass handed to her in the primary (which she forced... and incidentally cost taxpayer$), and didn't even have the support of her own town Republican party. She should resign and return to her day job (whatever that may be).

So Mr. know-it-all "Watchful Eye" Et. Al... How do you propose to run the town better than a professional. Do YOU have any credentials which would qualify YOU as a better manager of the town? From reading your posts I'd say that none of you are qualified to manage a McDonalds, let alone a town.

Re:BOARD OF SELECTMEN - PUBLIC AUDIENCE -July 14, 2008 - 2008/08/21 08:39 SBspook: A good government is one which is accountable to the people which a town manager is not. A town manager form of government places a huge amount of power in an unelected and therefore unaccountable person. If you have a problem with Ms. Glassman (or did with Mr. Vincent) you had the power of the vote. Not so with a town manager. What confuses me is why pro-town manager folks don't push for a state manager instead of a governor. What is the difference? As far as other surrounding towns having town managers, I personally believe that Simsbury is the best town in the entire area. I therefore have no desire to emulate the form of government practiced by towns that I do not think are as well run.
