nodblog.org - 2008/08/06 13:03 Looks like the newest pressure group is some outfit nodblog.org. They distributed flyers all around Old Meadow Plain road. Their beef seems to be with the hunting dog training a the Nod Brook Wild Life Management area. My guess is this is another set of new residents who don't like the neighbors who have been here forever.

Re:nodblog.org - 2008/08/06 23:47 Hey Dirty - Eventually something you're not going to be happy with will land in your back yard. Can I then call YOU a Nimby?

I'd rather live in a town where groups of residents are taking a passionate interest in how their town evolves, rather than allowing it to run amok... like W/ Hartford, Newington, Wethersfield, Bloomfield, New Britain, etc.

Ya know... if you envy one of the surrounding towns, or a town in an entirely different state (or country)... WHY NOT MOVE? I doubt anyone would shed a tear over your departure.

Re:nodblog.org - 2008/08/07 10:05 The problem isn't passionate interest, it's a lack of civility and respect towards your fellow citizens. If I don't like something on someone elses property it's none of my business and I hope they respect me the same way. For public lands following rules and respecting use for all citizens is vital. The state and town have public lands for golfers, skiers, boaters, swimmers, fishermen, hunters, hikers and many more. The Nod Brook WMA is accessible for walking, fishing and boating except for sanctioned field trial events which are clearly posted. It is one of two areas in the state for such use.

The stated argument that "noise" from shooting is damageing to the environment in that area is just a figleaf. There is plenty of noise from the state police shooting range just across the river and lots of noise from RT10 and Nod Road.

The Nod Brook WMA was dedicated for dog training well before I moved to simsbury 20 years ago. It's as much a part of town as the Ethel Walker woods. The dog training and competion is a diverse sport that adds interest to the town. Interestingly New Milford just had to pass a town ordinance further protecting farmers from harassment by new residents complaining about the ordinary smells and noise from farming. Newcomers don't get special privileges because their houses cost a lot or they are the loudest. There are only two or three residences bordering on the WMA. The townhouses have been there a long time and are at the far end of the WMA well away from any shooting noise. The other new house just built on the south end clearly the owners should have been aware of the use of the area when the house was built. So who is really affected by this!

Re:nodblog.org - 2008/08/11 09:22 This type of thing happens all the time and sadly, people think if they have enough money they can make things go their way. Its not as though the firing range or hunting dog training suddenly appeared after these people moved in; they were there first. Same thing happened when a new development went up in Avon. The new owners fought to close a kennel nearby due to noise, etc. The kennel was there first and is still there. The neighbors had no argument.

Re:nodblog.org - 2008/08/23 15:56 We're being invaded by the pseudo riche. The noise has been there for years, it's no surprise. You're right the noise from Rt 10 up on Cob Tail Way is awful, imo.
