ΔSimsbury Superintendent Gets 4.2 percent Raise: The school board Tuesday approved a 4.2 percent raise for Superintendent Diane Ullman, bringing her annual salary to $181,047. "The board is extremely pleased with the superintendent's performance," Vice Chairman Charlie Moret said. "The salary increase is indicative of our confidence." Although it took the board less than five minutes to approve the raise, members said the process that brought them there took months. The board conducted an extensive review of the compensation packages earned by superintendents in other high-achieving districts.Several of the districts Simsbury looked at, including Farmington and West Hartford, are now seeking new superintendents. "We are very aware that there are a number of retirements," board member Michael Goman said. "There is, in our opinion, a shortage of highly qualified superintendents." Ullman's raise is in line with the raises negotiated by the teacher's union, Goman said. Those raises and step adjustments come to about 4.8 percent over each of the next three years. The board also authorized a $5,000 payment to Ullman's retirement account and agreed to extend her contract for three years, with the provision that she will undergo a performance evaluation each year.
