 Man shoots bear in Simsbury - 2008/06/04 12:11 I think the idea that someone just up and shot a bear is ridiculous. If this man was stupid enough to leave his garage door open knowing that there was birdseed in there and that there (gasp!) are bears in Simsbury, he's at fault not the bear. If the bear were in the garage and heading towards the man, maybe I could understand better although the man would just have to go inside, but the bear was walking back to the woods. The man shot the bear in the back!!!!! Not only is this guy cruel and inhumane, he's a coward too.

 Re:Man shoots bear in Simsbury - 2008/06/21 15:30 It gets worse...it was a mother bear whose 2 cubs are now orphans and he followed it into the woods to shoot it in the head, the general thought is that the guy baited the bear, and he said he's going to shoot any other bears that come into his yard. I'd be afraid, very afraid, if I were this guy's neighbors. Whose to say an errant shot won't hit another innocent being...this time a human being.

I didn't check but the article on the original story could still be under courant.com, under towns, under simsbury.....

Oh and I heard sadly, three cubs..The dog warden was doing his best to look for them ...GG

What an idiot that man is, imo. I hope he doesn't get away with this.

I understand the Simsbury Police Dept is going to have a talk on how we can learn to deal with and live with bears.

The article was in this morning's Hartford Courant. I believe the talk is in the Library.
