Re:new to the board - 2008/05/27 11:32 Hi Julie,

A little more info to add to your research! I have a 7 year old already in the public school system, and a 4 year old who will start in 1 1/2 years. In addition to what you've already been told: the schools here are very competitive (which to me is not necessarily a good thing) but have excellent teachers, and the PTO's are very active. The town has top notch recreation facilities and programs, in addition to tons of other recreation options: fishing, canoeing, golf, skiing, SHOPPING!, antiquing, etc. We are 1 1/2 hours to mountains, 2 hours to either Boston or NYC, 1 hour to the ocean. Great proximity. The cost of living around here is very expensive, but we feel it's worth it. Farmington Valley in general is a safe, beautiful area with a lot to offer. Avon's schools are also top notch, a bit smaller class size; Farmington is not as remote as Avon and Simsbury due to it's easy highway access but it's not as crime/drug-free nor does it have the charm of Simsbury and Avon. There are more rural towns (Canton, Granby, etc.) and more urban towns (West Hartford) but all could be good choices. AWESOME dining options.

Good luck!
