TOM VINCENT - CLAIM REJECTED - 2008/04/21 20:24
Board of Selectmen – April 21, 2008
The voters of Simsbury rejected Tom Vincent for First Selectman. This rejection although unexpected by Tom Vincent is the reality of running for elected office. There is a winner and a loser. Tom Vincent was the loser. Just because he can’t accept this rejection he has decided to take our town hostage by asking for money that he perceives is his for the asking. He deserves no more than the inflated salary he received for his years of service to the Town. Tom Vincent is no longer “the decider.” An elected official does not have all the rights of contracted employees. Tom Vincent is using his attorney as a conduit for a threat of lengthy expensive litigation against the town for money that he does not deserve. My answer to his claim is BRING IT ON ! There is also the issue of snowplowing which Tom Vincent used without permission. Vincent used his authority as Public Works Director to force the highway department employees to plow his driveway. How many employees would challenge their superior’s orders? I have my driveway plowed and I pay $40 for each plowing. Tom Vincent should pay back the amount of money for plowing his driveway during his term in office and all other expenditures that were not part of his duties and responsibilities as First Selectman. I would urge this board to reject all claims made by Tom Vincent. We would not be here tonight if the town had a Town Manager with all duties and responsibilities written into a signed contract. It is time for this board to convene a Charter Revision Commission to change our government from an elected First Selectman to a Town Manager.
