 computers or people? - 2008/04/08 09:00 I've seen a email circulating that states that the BOE 08-09 budget will likely be eliminating several special ed and para-professionals while at the same time spending over $250,000 on laptops and "smart boards" for the K-6 grades. Should being high tech be a priority. Aren't kids seeing enough screens at home (TV & Home Computers). I think this is a foolish!

 Re:computers or people? - 2008/04/08 19:31 Amen to this! I think if the Simsbury BOE wants to get all "Treky" on the town than this is perfect. It eliminates the use of human contact. But seriously, there are kids who need the Paras and I don't even know what to say about them getting rid of Special Ed programs.

Sounds like going to the K-6 schools, if this passes, will be like going to a college with all the tech stuff. Why not give it to the older grades where it's needed more at least? Makes no sense.

I think its a ploy to get parents riled up enough to demand more money from the BOF. Joe Townsley used to do the same thing; threaten to cut a popular program, only to pull it back from the fire once he got what he wanted.

 Re:computers or people? - 2008/04/12 22:01 Agree, it makes no sense to spend money on screens, and let go of people, but I am with uconniac, feel this is a game to get more funding. Though I wouldn't be surprised if at the end computers are purchased and people end up fired.
