Re:lunchtime at SHS - how pathetic - 2008/04/04 23:24 Well, I just noticed another problem in Simsbury. Hundreds of 16 and under kids roaming free at the commons at night during the weekends. It's almost as bad as trying to drive around at Westminster's campus.

Re:lunchtime at SHS - how pathetic - 2008/04/07 18:22 I think letting the kids hang out at the commons causes 2 potential problems;

1. Detterents to people who actually support the businesses there. People don't want to play dodge the teenager or be harassed by anyone. Some of the kids who hang out are pretty vocal about others getting in "their" way. If people who actually spend money at the businesses at the commons stop going there, they will close. Rumor has it that Borders may be closing.

2. Liability issues. If teenagers are wandering in the parking lot there's a potential for one to get hit by a car.

Whatever happened to kids hanging out at home? Oh, wait! That's what we did in the dark ages. I guess we weren't that cool. Thank goodness my kids never felt the need to hang out at the commons.

Re:lunchtime at SHS - how pathetic - 2008/04/07 19:27 I could care less that they hang out there, but not running around in the parking lots.

Re:lunchtime at SHS - how pathetic - 2008/04/08 08:51 I never noticed any of the kids randomly "running" thru the parking lots. Were not talking toddlers here. As for the businesses in the commons? Guess what kids spend money too.
They keep the movie theatre in business for sure. Chili's is packed with a young crowd as is Starbucks. Whats a shame is how the whole complex was built. The parking lot is a travesty.
And Uconniac, you need to get out more. Kids cant sit in every Friday and Saturday night. A social life is OK after sitting in a classroom for 5 days a week. Did you home school your kids too?

Re:lunchtime at SHS - how pathetic - 2008/04/08 19:26 If the setup of the Commons was better then they wouldn't really be running/roaming the parking lots.

I came to the 4-way stop behind Chili's and this group of teens just walked right out through the intersection w/o even caring to look. So me, being ridiculously awesome, just went and they had to stop. One smart a$$ (you know, the ones that are punk skaters and look like they are doped up on a lot of drugs) gave me a "wtf" look so I drove a little closer to him (at a slow speed, don't worry yourselves).

In all honestly, I think the plethora of youth roaming/taking over the Commons at night time turns off a lot of the older crowd. I'll still go to Chili's though. They can't sit in the bar area
