Re:FINAL STRAW? DIRTY DANCING - 2008/02/28 18:31 Well, If one teacher (retired) doesn't know what the "final straw" was, then ask one still in the school system......And of course the answer is...."No teacher wanted to chaperon the school dances"!
And turns out that letter (I never read, no child in SHS now) the Principal wrote to the parents was in turn picked up on by other newspapers and those towns, not only in Connecticut are now passing along to their students NO DIRTY DANCING AT THE DANCES...or NO dances....
And I did not know this but I hear a student who attended some dances, wrote a letter complaining about the letter written by the principal on no dirty dancing, until HE went to another school dance in another town/state? where they were dancing like that as well, and he saw how inappropriate it was there (how bad I guess in can turn into?) and HE wrote a letter (I believe) about his changing his mind........So..that's the scoop as I hear it...GG

Re:FINAL STRAW? DIRTY DANCING - 2008/02/29 07:53 And you know what..............

The administration took a stand against this kind of dancing ?????

Well, you know what.......The administration WERE the one's who ALLOWED this kind of dancing..............

It was the chaperone's (The Teacher's) who put their foot down!!!!!!!!

The teacher's have to be IN the classrooms day to day with those children, not the administration who tries to be careful in their decision making NOT to upset the child's self esteem! GG

OK..I think I'm done.....

Re:FINAL STRAW? DIRTY DANCING - 2008/03/01 15:37 In response to their dirty dancing being taken away, the children are acting, well, childish. This makes me laugh because they want to be treated as (young) adults and taken seriously but when faced with not getting what they want, they show they are no more mature than a 2 year old. Personally, I don't care if dances are discontinued because I think that giving in to the "demand" of students to be able to dance the way they want would 1. remove any credibility the administration has left, and 2. make things worse in the end.

The teachers who refused to continue chaperoning these dances deserve a big gold star for pulling the plug. As for any embarrasment this may have caused due to news exposure, its the administration's own fault. Had they nipped it in the bud earlier, it wouldh't have gotten to this point.

Re:FINAL STRAW? DIRTY DANCING - 2008/03/09 13:08 So does this mean no prom then? Good, serves the students right. As for the administration...well, I think we all know my general opinion of them.

Re:FINAL STRAW? DIRTY DANCING - 2008/03/10 18:40 Actually it would serve them right (The Administration) if Prom did get canceled due to lack of ticket sales, due to a boycott because the kids couldn't dance the dance of their choice. Basically because the Administration allowed the behavior to have gotten this out of hand in the first place!
I would like to see that happen...A boycott of the prom....Wouldn't that be the "end all" of endings! GG
