Re:NEW, FUN, EXCITING, IN SIMSBURY? - 2008/02/25 20:47 So many choices? I'll take dirty dancing for $200.

After the school banned dirty dancing, kids have been boycotting any and all school social functions including an activites night meant as a scholarship fundraiser in Ben Clark's memory. I understand the teenage mentality but its sad that even the senior class of who Ben's brother is a member, didn't even support the scholarship night which only cost the kids $1. Now it looks like less than 50% of the seniors are supporting the afterprom party. I wish they'd realize they are biting off their nose to spite their face.

On another note, I was wondering the same thing Thorgs. Also, how goes life?

Re:NEW, FUN, EXCITING, IN SIMSBURY? - 2008/02/25 21:33 Hi Uconniac, That is SO sad....Like I had said previous, their cousins were neighbors so we saw Ben and his brother playing in the neighborhood all the time when they were younger...I wonder if there is another way to get money towards a scholarship in Ben's name? Let us know if you hear of something happening, please?

Dirty Dancing....Took me a while to watch the movie when it first came out, as I thought it was "sinful", but if I don't get too prudish, I loved it, i have it on DVD...But, in school...I remember when my son was in SHS class of 06', he went to one dance and he said all the gals and guys would form a circle and the kids would gather in the middle of that circle doing all sorts of indecent things...I'm sorry to be so specific, but I had a teacher tell me last year that when the kids do the dirty dancing that the guys couldn't help but "get off' a little because they got aroused. She could tell because their clothing was wet.....Can we blame the children anyway though? Look at everything around us, it is all sexualized......Back when I was in SHS as a student myself, it was drugs that was the big thing...
Things have really gotten sick though, to have the kids almost so conceded and stuck up as their right..and boycott....cute!
So, like myself and many many others, when we get out of SHS and grow up a bit, that's when we will begin to regret some of the choices we made. "We" will discover something more important....life itself, real life, the real world....like a friend/classmate dying, sometimes within months of graduating, or someone in a coma because of a car accident, or like someone in my son's graduating class getting pregnant at the age of 19, or etc., etc. etc....
I regret all the conforming to please others I did, and NOT being true to myself....BUT, if the kids are acting like this..then I believe the Parents have a lot to do with contributing to the kids behaviors..by being friends, and not demanding good moral behaviors, esp. in public, in the schools....What kind of kids are "we" turning out...the kids of the future, great! BUT, MY kid...would NEVER boycott because he wasn't allowed to do dirty dancing at school....No Way! NO WAY!!! GG

Re: YES, DIRTY DANCING - 2008/02/26 08:23 Yes to Dirty Dancing at the SHS dances......I think the kids should dirty dance at the school dances on ONE account...THAT one parent of each child who does "dirty dancing" goes to chaperon!
Only once...and lets see how wonderful the parents feel about watching their kids look like a bunch of animals on the dance floor....Feel the sarcasm???? GG

Re:NEW, FUN, EXCITING, IN SIMSBURY? - 2008/02/26 09:10 OK, so this is the problem -- "MY kid would NEVER....." Well, guess what? YOUR kid WOULD.
And MY kid, too. And that nice innocent little girl who babysits. And.....

Too many parents think that there are GOOD kids (ie THEIR kids) and all those other kids whose parents don't care, and who do bad things like grind and this attitude is just divisive.

I do not condone the dirty dancing, but they are just kids All of our kids. And they are ALL over exposed to our hypersexualized, drug infused, consumer culture.Sometimes the kids that appear so grounded are the very ones that smoke pot, or get pregnant, or get arrested or, tragically, end their lives.
