Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/05 19:10 Oh Specter, I'm so glad to hear you were one of the few who got along well with others in school. Maybe it is a Simsbury thing? I sure hope you have found people as friendly, trusting, and decent while you've lived here as you did where you grew up! GG

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/05 20:05 You know Thorgs, You had me thinking about school today. I forgot to mention one important thing. The opposite of conforming was being picked on in school. I think a lot of people were picked on or knew someone who was.
Do you really know why kids pick on kids? Does anyone? I'll tell you from my point of view looking back: Kids pick on others to feel better about themselves. Kids picked on kids because that kid had something that made that other kid feel jealous. For whatever reason....if you were pretty, then they tried their best to make you feel ugly, smarter, to make you feel dumb. And if you had something really physically wrong with you, then the kid (the bully) would pick on that person because they didn't have a chance! That person was easy prey. Not to mention the bully was jealous because that person never stopped living, and learning, and improving. They didn't hide, they tried their best to face life each day regardless of how mean some people were! Oh, that really makes a bully mad! Deep down a bully is hurting just as much as they tried to make those they picked on hurt too! Well, this is one reason I never have attended one reunion in all these years....this walk down memory lane was more than enough! BTW...How do I apologize to all those I mistreated in various ways while I was in school? I can read my own words and they are piercing! Oh great......GG

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/05 21:00 We should change the thread title to memory lane

Being picked on was so annoying. My first day of school in Simsbury I was picked on and I remember the kid who did it.

I work at Squadron and whenever I see this I try to put an end to it, unless it's happening to a kid that is a teacher's pet when adults are around and little hellion when no adults are around. Then I just say talk to the teacher about it.

My brother actually stopped going to the public schools because kids were so mean, but now he's 10,000 times better off and much better then these spoiled brats

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/05 21:38 I know Thorgs, but "Simsbury History" looked too pretty running down the page to change! We should chat over coffee sometime. I can tell you stories of my wonderful years in the School system. I would share some here, but I want to try to remain somewhat anonymous!
If I said any little thing, someone may recognize themselves as the perpetrator, or victim! I'm sorry, I played any side of the fence to survive...goodness, I sound horrible....I'm so glad I logged on the other day.....who again was responsible for calling me? hummm? GG

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/06 07:16 High school kids are the same every where you go and unfortunately, for many, their behavior is indicative of how they'll be as adults. I had the best group of friends in high school. We hung out all the time, every day in the summer, had parties (boring by today's standards) and took the same AP classes. At the end of our junior year I was basically ditched by all. Why? Jealousy. Remember, junior year is when officers for clubs are named for the following year. I was named captain of this, VP of that and editor of the another. Only recently have I reconnected with my best friend from junior high and high school who was co-captain. I thought she was mad; she thought I didn't want to hang with her because I was in the "cool crowd". Boy was she surprised when she found out the truth. Btw, this wasn't in Simsbury.

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/06 08:50 Thankfully then, I was in with the few and as I got older my behaviors didn't follow me into adulthood. Although I do have my insecurities still in some areas. I stick up for myself though, and I seem to always have a heart to protect the underdog! GG
