Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/03 19:01Oh goodness, I've been thinking of the things that I grew up with in Simsbury, like the old roller skating nights at Henry James School ln the cafeteria, or the scary movie nights at the High School in the auditorium! Not to mention the old Hoffert's pharmacy down town with the old fashion counter to sit down and get a fountain drink. Oh, not to mention the good old days when they used to have the 4th of July fire works in the field up by the pool's at Memorial fields! Oh that was great, lying right on your cars looking up at the sky! Can you imagine all the stories of people who are still here in town who graduated High school out of "Henry James High School"( it may have had a different name) or who were the first to attend Simsbury High School when it was first built? Go back a few more years and Martin Luther King once worked here too! Hey, it was tobacco, but "he was here"! I did not know about the tunnels at Pettibone either. That sounds like something to look into! And the old strip mall, the Farmington Valley Mall, I liked that mall better than the one that is there now. We could have stuck a movie theater in anywhere in town. Anyone remember the old Avon Twin, or Avon Park movie theaters, where I first saw the movie "Jaws"! Oh that was something, thanks again to the person who didn't warn us about the head popping out of the boat, but warned us by his talking in the theater the whole time about everything else that was about to happen as he had already seen the movie! I still remember that after all these years! I'm so glad they replayed that movie again for the next generation to be scared out of the ocean forever! GG

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/03 19:43You must be really old to remember all that stuff.

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/03 19:52I know, like Thorgs said, he can only remember the old strip mall before The Commons went in! Hey, it's a good thing after growing up in Simsbury when I was a teenager that I remember anything! Sex, drugs, and rock n roll! Thankfully some, like myself grow up!
BTW what's up with "Day stalker"? I don't know what your talking about...GG

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/03 19:58I remember Saturday nights, A&W Root Beer Floats, going to the drive-in with my family - all 8 of us in the wagon. They would put my brother and me on top in sleeping bags. Used to be good - and cheap - entertainment.___________________ Talk atya L8r,

Re:Re Simsbury History - 2007/06/03 20:04Oh, the drive in movies! I remember going as a kid with family too. Who knows what town, none of those were really close to here. They still have a drive- in in Riverton, I think! That may have closed too, but I don't think so. I must be getting old though, by the time it gets dark here in the summer months it's almost my bed time! GG

Oh wait, I was forced to be Mormon then so that ruined my childhood, haha.
