Wind Farms of Nantucket - 2007/03/31 11:00
Did you read the article about the approval of a wind farm off of the coast? See it in the Courant here.
I don't know if any of you have seen a wind farm, but they are some of the most beautiful man-made structures I have seen. The one I am most familiar with is the farm at the east end of the San Gorgonia Pass on Interstate 10 between LA and Palm Springs. Hundreds and hundreds of the windmills.

Now we will apparently have the first major one on the east coast here in New England. It is one of the least abusive forms of generating power there is - not toxic effects (well - they do have to lubricated once in a while I assume). Clean, renewable energy. No shredding of trees, no strip mines (ever seen one of those - or the aftermath once the coal runs out?). Just making use of the wind as humans have done for centuries.
Of course, you can't please everyone. The people protesting over the wind farm are worried about the tourism industry and birds. My view - if played right you make it an attraction for people.

And the birds? Well if they aren't bright enough to see the things then maybe it was meant to be. Natural selection.....
Anyone else?
