Re:Gasoline - 2007/01/12 14:26
You are right LaBee - I travel around a bit too and prices are highest here - but the same in Manchester and a few other areas. I haven't been to FairField/Greenwich lately, but I bet the prices are higher there. Granby is cheaper, and MA is even cheaper. Torrington has a station near the Wal-Mart that is only $2.09 per gallon.
Part of the problem is the zone pricing law. The state actually allows wholesalers to charge higher prices for the gas in places with higher incomes! I know that local dealers are only making a few pennies per gallon on gas. There have been a few attempts in the state legislature to change the zone pricing practice, but the fear is that if they do, the wholesalers will charge the higher price to everyone. Until some way to balance all that out is agreed upon, the ups-and-downs of local price variations will remain. But - then again - a 50 cent per gallon difference is HUGE. Why is Simsbury still so high?
But still - the question remains - why don't prices go down immediately when crude oil drops? It goes up immediately when crude climbs.
