Re:curfew - 2006/11/30 16:27
I was with my son; who got his license 4 months ago; and I saw the same thing! A Simsbury police officer talking on their cellphone. I questioned my son about it and he informed me that the law was written with the stipulation that CT police officers are allowed to drive and use their cellphones (for business/emergency purposes). As we all know-picking up milk on the way home can be an emergency-depending on how one sees the situation.
I am more upset that it seems to be that not many people are following the new law restricting cellphone use and requiring the use of a handsfree device. I see all these housewives driving their BIG SUVs, in town, with the cellphone pressed up to their ears! I know that this is not what this thread/discussion is about but it really burns my butt! I went out and got headsets for all of our cars-they aren't cheap! I guess I didn't have to-no one else seems to care.
Okay I vented-now as for the curfew-I still think it would not be a bad idea. Yes, the state says that new drivers can't drive with friends, family and at night for a period of time. My sons all followed the rules-but according to them most if not all of their friends didn't and don't follow suit. I think the parents don't know the rules and I am sure the kids aren't going out of their way to tell them. So maybe they need a little help-stearing them in the right direction. Lastly-I hear it from my kids all the time-they are bored. I don't know what the answer is but sitting in front of the TV playing XBox or PS-3 is not the answer.
