Re:Corrigan case - 2006/10/04 13:25
ck,
You are right. He pleaded to other charges. But I think you missed my point. Your main contention then, and now, was that it was all alcohol related. This is still evidenced by your statement:
guess one shouldnt drink alcohol...
If you read what I wrote, you will note that the DUI and Manslaughter w/a Motor Vehicle charges were DROPPED because THE STATE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH EVIDENCE to prove that there was alcohol involved. That was my point then, and now. Sorry you don't like it.
Now - did he run a stop sign? Yes. We see that every day. I almost got hit by one of Simsbury's finest the other day as he ran a stop sign. I saw an argument on Firetown a few weeks back where a guy had run a stop sign and then got angry because the car coming down the street honked at him. People run stop signs. It is epidemic here.....
Remember though, that our discussion was NOT about running the stop sign. It was about charging Corrigan with Manslaughter. You insisted it was the correct charge, based on the alcohol (remember? We went back and forth quoting laws to each other.). Turns out that the Manslaughter charge was incorrect. Sorry if you feel that pointing that out to you makes me "humble".
Bottom line is that it was a tragedy for all involved, including the young man who hit the van (I know the family). Running the stop sign was wrong. So was charging the man with felony charges in the face of the tragedy. That was the discussion then.
