Re:Happy First Day of School - 2006/08/30 12:04 I second the sentiment. And please folks - watch out for bus stops and kids walking. Remember they are not always the most cognizant of the cars or other vehicles around them. ___________________

Re:Happy First Day of School - 2006/08/30 21:04 Ditto. I also have a question. It seems to me that the traffic increases significantly during rush hour when schools are open. I don't just mean school busses, but more cars. Does Simsbury employ so many people in the school system that it significantly impacts the rush hours traffic? I guess this is where the school budget is going.

One more thing. The traffic lights in front of the old EB facility seem to be on a cycle instead of using trip sensors. Backs up traffic something fierce. It looks like all the the lights are being redone. Does anyone know why?

Re:Happy First Day of School - 2006/08/31 06:25 You are not imagining things. The traffic does increase but its not due to school employees. Its due to the fact that every other parent drives their kids to school. The funny thing is that those who make the traffic heavy are the worst complainers about "the traffic". Don't they realize they're part of the problem? You don't even want to see what happens on a rainy day.

Re:Happy First Day of School - 2006/08/31 21:23 My daughter came home from school in tears today. Regular posters will know that my daughter changed school last year because of a bullying problem at her old school. Things seem to be better until now.

This morning she rode her bike to school with someone who remained her closest friend all last year. Then the friend called my daughter to say that someone else was joining them and that all 3 of the girls would ride together.

To find out the other 2 girls were chatting during the ride both ways leaving my daughter out of the conversation. When I asked her who she played with during recess, she mentioned a couple "other" girls. I asked why she didn't play with her buddy, she said because she won't let me. I asked her to explain what happened. She told me that she asked if she could play with them & this "buddy" just laughed & told her to go away.

My daughter can be somewhat pushy & bossy at times. Probably due to the rejection she's had all these years at her old school. She never had any true friends until changing schools.
But she is very smart & a loveable child.

She cries about it but in the same breath she says that she will just try to make friends with someone else. But I don't believe that is the answer.

I am very upset about this because I want her to have friends & be happy. She is doing well in school but socially is a different story. I suggested that I talk to her buddies Mom to see if I can make things better but she doesn't want me to. I even thought if I talked to her teacher maybe she could give me some ideas. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Any comments?

Re:Happy First Day of School - 2006/08/31 22:31 Blue Eyes,

That is not fun. I remember that both of my kids went through somewhat similar situations - each had a friend who decided that they wanted to hang with the "in crowd" and told my kids they didn't cut it. It was tough, but eventually their friends came back again. It is the time in the middle that is rough.
